Destination Dubai

Dubai is one of the seven states making up the United Arab Emirates and it is located in the Middle East at the crossroads of Asia and Europe.

Dubai is a city of striking contrasts; it is an exciting destination both for travelers seeking thrills and adventure and for expatriates seeking a healthy employment climate and a tax free lifestyle.

Those expatriates planning on moving to the UAE or who are seeking the latest job opportunities in Dubai are certainly not alone. The population of Dubai is one of the fastest growing in the world and over the past twenty five years it has quadrupled.

Employment prospects in the city rise annually by an average of 8.3% and the increasing availability of quality jobs has attracted record numbers of expatriates to the region. The appeal of Dubai lies in the fact that it is a liberal and moderate emirate and it has attracted major players from every single significant business sector of note because of the tax free trade zones Dubai is famous for. These industry giants from the media, IT, engineering and financial sectors for example can recruit internationally and many offer their staff a tax free salary with attractive relocation benefits on top meaning they attract the best, most dynamic employees from around the world.

The expatriate population in the entire UAE makes up 91.5% of the working population so you can see how popular a destination Dubai is with international executives from around the world. To work in Dubai it is necessary to obtain an employment visa, if you secure a job offer before you fly out your employer will sponsor your visa for you. Alternatively you can travel to the country on a 30 day temporary visa, seek work and as soon as you secure a job offer you can apply for your employment visa.

In terms of those who holiday in Dubai they are divided into a number of categories – you have shopoholics who come for the tax free prices on luxury goods and jewellery, you have those who want an adventure in and around the ancient and fascinating heart of Dubai, you have families keen to hit the theme parks and adventure centres and those who come for the sporting highlights of Dubai such as the world class golf, polo, diving and desert safaris.

Visitors to the city of Dubai require a visa unless they herald from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman or Saudi Arabia. Those visitors who are staying in one of the amazing and luxurious hotels Dubai is famous for will be provided with a visa by the hotel for the duration of their stay. The process to obtain a visa is very simple, in fact most travel agents or hotels will fill in the necessary paper work for you and you can either apply for a 14 day ‘transit visa’ or a 30 day ‘visit visa’ and then enter the country and be free to enjoy your time exploring this dynamic and breathtaking city of contrasts.

Chicago - A Top Family Vacation Destination

Chicago is one of the best family vacation destinations in America. The "Windy City" or "Chi-Town" as Chicago is sometimes referred to has everything a family could want from beaches, museums, both cultural and historical, educational things to see and do, excellent zoos, amusement parks, great food, shopping, nightlife, and not to mention something for every type of sports fans. From the beauty of Lake Michigan and Grant Park to riverboat rides on the Chicago River, Chicago is a fantastic place for a family to visit.

You might think that seeing the sights in one of the world's most exciting, sophisticated cities would be expensive...but you'd be wrong. Chicago has such an astounding number of free things to do throughout the year - including many of the city's best attractions - that you could easily fill several weeks with fascinating fun which won't cost you a penny.

Along the lakefront Chicago has 33 beaches and miles of jogging and bike paths that are always free. Discover the fun for kids of every age and here are a few of Chicago's favorites that are always open and free.

Lincoln Park Zoo is a world of wildlife in the shadow of skyscrapers. Located within a lush park just minutes north of Chicago, the zoo has been a natural, free oasis for generations of animal lovers, who come to hear a lion's roar echo off nearby apartment buildings, see gorillas climb trees as the Willis Tower looms in the distance, or forget where they are as they engross themselves in tropical rainforests, dry-thorn forests or spacious savannas.

The Chicago Botanic Garden has over 300 acres of incredible landscape. Discover eight different lagoons and a variety of different botanical environments. Two of the highlights for plant and flower enthusiasts to enjoy are a Japanese garden and an English garden. The garden is often home to special outdoor events. The best part for this attraction is that admission is free.

Millennium Park is an award-winning center for art, music, architecture and landscape design. The result of a unique partnership between the City of Chicago and the philanthropic community, the 24.5-acre Park features the work of world-renowned architects, planners, artists and designers. During warm weather there are often free concerts and end your tour at the Crown fountain, where the kids can't resist splashing through the water. The kids can also run across the 925-foot BP Bridge, which connects the park to the lakefront. Millennium Park is located in the heart of downtown Chicago. Visitors are encouraged to make the Millennium Park Welcome Center their first stop at the Park where specialists are available to help plan their Park visit.

Grant Park is Chicago's principal downtown park. It is located between Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan. It consists of a series of bridges which cross the Railway tracks that are still on the park's compound. After the bridges, the park is divided in sections with lawns, trees and monuments, one of them being a statue of Abraham Lincoln. The main attraction in Grant Park is Buckingham Fountain. The Buckingham Fountain, which features a central jet shooting water up to 150 feet in the air, is best seen at night when it is animated with a now computerized choreography of color spotlights.

There are many different attractions that Chicago has to offer. Here some additional attractions you should consider visiting during your family vacation that have nominal admittance fees. Although, on certain days some of these attractions have free admission you will have to check each attraction if/when they have free days.

Navy Pier is Chicago's most visited tourist attraction. Located on Lake Michigan you can experience beautiful views of the city from atop the Ferris wheel and more fun rides below. Navy Pier has an IMAX Theater, the Chicago Children's Museum, and a launching spot for boat rides, restaurants and more.

The Field Museum is Chicago's natural history museum that houses the world's most complete T-Rex, exhibits on African animals, underground bugs and Native Americans. An interesting attraction for every age group.

The Museum of Science and Industry features immersive exhibits such as a ride down a coalmine shaft or a walk through a U-505 German World War II submarine. This museum has many interactive exhibits. If you have time for only one museum, the Museum of Science and Industry is one you should not miss.

The Shedd Aquarium connects people to the living world. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan the Shedd Aquarium is the world's largest indoor aquarium with more than 8,000 aquatic animals representing more than 700 species from all parts of the world.

Explore outer space at the Adler Planetarium. This amazing tourist attraction lets you experience space up close. Check out the Sky Pavilion, where you can enjoy an interactive tour of the Milky Way. There are several great interactive exhibits as well.

The Art Institute of Chicago is home to all kinds of exhibits for art lovers to enjoy. The museum is known for its collection of French Impressionists, ancient Greek and Roman pottery and Japanese art. No matter what sort of art you enjoy you'll likely find it here.

A visit to Chicago would not be complete without a visit to Wrigleyville, home of Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs. Try to score some tickets if the Cubs are in town. Even if you are not a Cubs fan, just catching a game in this historic park is exciting.

Brookfield Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the country featuring over 2,700 animals on 216 acres. In habitats designed to replicate nature, The Tropic World recreates environments of rainforests on three continents while the Fragile Kingdom imagines the desert, jungle and mountainous regions. With so much to see here you will not be able to see everything in a day.

Want to see a great view of Chicago? Whether you're exploring the city's astonishing architecture during a guided tour (on foot or aboard a Chicago River boat, lakeshore cruise or sightseeing bus) or you're enjoying the birds-eye view from the 103rd floor of Skydeck Chicago in the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) and the 94th floor Hancock Observatory.

Chicago is such a food lovers' paradise that diners face just one dilemma: How to choose from so many delicious options? One way to narrow your dining choices is by type of food. Chicago has many outstanding restaurants serving every cuisine. Two classics that Chicagoans take very seriously: pizza and hot dogs. Sample these two favorites during your visit so you can officially join in the debate.

The nightlife in Chicago is extraordinary. No matter what type you favor - pop, rap, hip hop, bluegrass, R&B, gospel, soul, or salsa - you'll find it in this city that loves music. And if you feel like dancing, step out at one of the city's sizzling dance clubs. If comedy is in your plans Chicago has outstanding comedy clubs. Two of the best are The Second City and ComedySportz, which deliver the fastest, funniest, and smartest acts you'll ever witness.

Chicago has an unparalleled variety of choices in downtown hotels and bed & breakfasts. If you prefer accommodations outside the city, broaden your reach into the greater metropolitan area for hotels near O'Hare or Midway airports and suburban hotels. You'll find service, comfort, and value at every price point - and many of these properties are offering hot deals right now. Whatever your accommodations you will be sure to find something that suites your budget.

The Best Museums in Chicago

Only two other cities in the whole of the US are larger than Chicago. That guarantees you plenty of streets and sights to explore and appreciate during your stay.

And as with many cities all over the world, Chicago has its fair share of museums to visit too. No matter where your interests lie and what kind of exhibits you like to see, Chicago is certain to have at least one museum that will draw you inside.

Take the National Museum of Mexican Art for example. Located on West 19th Street, the museum is devoted to sharing all kinds of examples of Mexican culture with the world. You have the chance to view some stunning paintings and photographs, as well as textiles and even exhibits from ancient times.

A very different museum indeed can be found in the Chicago Children's Museum. This has been developed to entertain and educate children of all ages, although their parents will also find it entertaining.

Specific parts of the museum are designed for specific age groups, so you have everything from cooking and safety advice to a huge garden with equally huge insects!

Of course the best way to find out more about any city is to visit a museum that is dedicated to the city itself. The Chicago History Museum should be your destination if you want to know more about the Windy City.

Some of the temporary exhibitions celebrate notable anniversaries that should be remembered. In contrast the permanent exhibitions highlight many important events and parts of the history of Chicago for you to learn from. You'll find plenty to fascinate you here.

Perhaps one of the most unusual museums you will find in Chicago is the International Museum of Surgical Science. The name itself gives you an idea of what to expect - but even then nothing will prepare you for actually walking through the front door.

There are some quite mesmerizing exhibits here, including such diverse items as Napoleon's death mask, x-rays and various paintings which delve into the subject in various ways. This museum is enlightening, fascinating and surprising - three good reasons why a visit is well worth the time.

There are lots more museums throughout the city as well, including the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium and Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. Each one offers a unique experience that will only serve to enhance your holiday in Chicago.

Walt Disney World Holidays - Celebrating the Christmas Season

Walt Disney World Holidays - Celebrating the Christmas Season With Magic

If you have plans to travel to Walt Disney World during the Christmas holiday season, congratulations! You will be visiting during one of the most magical times of the year, even for Disney. My family and I have been fortunate to celebrate a few Walt Disney World holidays in years past, so this article will discuss a few of our family's favorite things to see and do during the Disney Christmas season.

Let's start with the Magic Kingdom. You will find Cinderella's Castle decked out in breathtaking "icicle" lights each night. Be sure to get pictures: if you are like me and not great with taking night-time pictures, then get a few PhotoPass shots in front of the castle. Trust me you'll be glad you did!

Magic Kingdom also hosts Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on a number of nights in December, prior to Christmas. This is a separate ticket, so if you want to attend, you will need to purchase tickets separately from your park pass. One of the highlights is the Christmas parade, featuring the famous Wooden Soldiers. If you want to see the parade, but don't plan on going to the Party before Christmas, you will be able to see it daily, every afternoon, typically starting Christmas Day...no separate ticket needed! (Please note: The Walt Disney World Christmas Parade that you see on TV every year on Christmas morning is not a live event and is, in fact, taped weeks before. So do not go to the Magic Kingdom on Christmas morning expecting to see/be in the parade!)

What about Epcot? While the decorations are beautiful, World Showcase offers a number of wonderful programs related to the "Holidays Around the World" theme, and if you have ever wondered what it would be like to celebrate Christmas in another country, here is your chance. Each country presents their favorite holiday traditions, and many have Holiday Storytellers that highlight some very interesting and fun customs: don't be surprised to see Father Christmas in England, Pere Noel in France, and St. Nicholas in Germany to name a few. It is delightful and yes, educational, in a very fun way.

Probably the highlight of the Wald Disney World holidays in Epcot is the Candlelight Processional, a nightly presentation of the Christmas story with a celebrity guest narrator and a huge massed choir made up of professional, college, and high school choirs from around the country. Although there are 3 showings each night, the line for seats starts well in advance of each show. You can reserve a seat by purchasing a Candlelight Processional dinner package, and I highly recommend. If you don't want to do the dinner package, then assign someone in your group to wait in the stand-by line to be certain of getting a seat. This is a dramatic and powerful performance that is always the highlight of our Disney Christmas visits.

Disney's Hollywood Studios has their fair share of holiday entertainment with the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, held nightly on the Streets of America. There are literally millions of lights in this display and it is truly an amazing one. The streets can get very crowded however, during this busy season, so to get the most of your visit here, go during the nightly Fantasmic show, or at the end of the evening, before the park closes. It is much more enjoyable when you are not elbow to elbow with people!

If you still want more parades, then Animal Kingdom has Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade, with all the characters in their holiday finest. Downtown Disney has the Festival of the Seasons, where you can finish any holiday shopping, visit Santa before Dec. 24, and say hi to Santa Goofy from Dec. 25 to Jan. 4. And don't miss visiting the holiday decorations at the Disney resorts as well. On your list should be the Grand Floridian for the Gingerbread House, the Boardwalk for the Carousel, and the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge for the enormous trees. These should not be missed, plus they are great ways to get away from the crowds for a bit.

The Walt Disney World holidays are certainly one of the loveliest times of year to visit. With beautiful holiday decorations and a festive atmosphere, Disney World becomes even more magical than it usually is.

Top Destinations For Christmas Breaks UK Style

When summer is upon us, we often think of exploring distant shores. But when the nights draw in and magic of Christmas illuminates the winter nights, many people decide to take a break in Britain. In this article we'll explore some ideas for Christmas breaks. UK towns, cities and countryside provide some interesting festive propositions for those deciding where to go.

London

The British capital is often well visited because of the vast Christmas lights that go up along its key shopping thoroughfares. Regents Street is a prime example - the lights of which are turned on by a famous person annually. It is true that snow is quite uncommon in London, but last year it broke with this tradition, and the city has more than a dusting of snow in the winter months. The city is certainly an option for those looking for Christmas breaks, UK style.

The Isle Of Skye

Quite possibly the antithesis of old London town, the isle of Skye offers what many people describe as some of the finest coastal and mountain landscapes in Britain. If you choose to come here, you should be aware of the isolated nature of the place; ideal if you have been in a built up area for awhile and need to escape with friends or family. Beaches and wildlife make it a real option for Christmas breaks. UK escapes don't get more dramatic than this.

Dartmoor

Another isolated yet beautiful spot is Dartmoor, in the heart of Devonshire. More likely than London to get snow around the festive season, it offer a great deal of places to explore with the family or with friends. Christmas breaks in the UK are also about socialising though, and you'll find plenty of friendly pubs to enjoy food and drink in (many of these are family friendly). If you want more action, you can always escape to Plymouth or Exeter for a more lively experience. But for those who want solitude and pretty English countryside, there are plenty cottages and holiday homes to stay in on Dartmoor.

Christmas breaks, UK style are arguably better enjoyed when you seek out more traditional locations and quaint pubs and villages. A little planning can make a festive getaway extra special. If you go to one of the more remote places, it's a good idea to make a backup plan for if the solitude gets too much - i.e. find out where the nearest pub is!

China as a Holiday Destination

China has never been a nation that has needed to make a concerted effort to attract foreign visitors. Its wealth of traditions, historic sites and wildlife make it the perfect destination for any adventurous traveler and its popularity as a holiday hotspot is far from waning. In August, its foreign visitor influx is set to increase yet further with the start of the 2008 Olympic Games. Beijing will host the mammoth event which is expected to entice tens of thousands of people to visit China. April 30th will mark the start of the 100-day countdown and numerous celebrations will be taking place throughout the city and indeed country to commemorate the event.
But while the Beijing Olympics are hugely important to the country and its people, China has plenty more on offer to travelers who are looking for the trip of a lifetime. Many of those who are booking trips over August are likely to spend a substantial amount of time traveling around the country as well as enjoying the Games themselves.

Researchers believe that relatives of the baiji dolphin first made their home in the river over 70 million years ago but today the species is in danger of dying out. The Chinese government has acted to conserve the creature, giving it the highest level of protection possible. But the dolphin is not the only old resident in this river of wonders. Even more ancient is the giant Chinese river sturgeon which breeds at Changshu, on the Yangtze River. Dating back an estimated 140 million years, it is one of the rarest creatures in China

Australia's Best Whale Watching Destinations

Australia is definitely among the best whale watching destinations in the world. Operators spring up across the country-continent's coastline as doing so would strategically make viewing those magnificent sea creatures right in their own habitat convenient. The best time of the year to watch whales is from the end of July to the first week of November. This is the period when Humpback Whales are migrating from the colder southern waters in Antarctica. Australian waters during the time tend to be more temperate to be liked by such whales, especially those that are due to give birth.

The migration route of whales is almost always close to the coast. Thus, whales are often seen by spectators from prominent headlands. Usually, the best time to watch whales in Australia is during midday, specifically when the sun is overhead directly. Three of the most commonly watched and observed whales across Australian waters are Humpback, Orca (Killer), and Southern Right Whales. Southern Right and Humpback seem to follow a single route every year.

Some of the best Australian locations to watch whales are Hervey Bay, Byron Bay, Stradbroke Island, Merimbula, and Moreton Bay. Hervey Bay is among Queensland's most popular natural holiday locations as it offers access to Fraser Island (a World Heritage listed island) and Lady Elliot Island (first coral clay across the Great Barrier Reef). Whale watching here is most ideal from August to October.

Byron Bay is among the country's best holiday destinations. It has been known for its great surf beaches, amazing marine parks, and other exciting facilities. Stradbroke Island features a great whale watching facility at Point Lookout especially during winter. Its North Gorge Walk is also popular for similar activities. Merimbula is a resort town between Melbourne and Sydney. Its Marina offers a wide array of fishing charters, whale watching expeditions, and dolphin cruises.

Lastly, there seems no other better place to whale watch mighty Humpbacks than Moreton Bay in Brisbane, Queensland. So far, the area has been widely recognized as among the best whale watching destinations in the world. It is not in any way surprising. Organizers of whale watching activities in Moreton Bay call such events as magnificent 'Eye Spy' encounters with whales that are clueless they are being watched. Humpback Whales, which frequent the bay, are among the most surface-active displaying whale species with behaviors that truly awe and entertain people.

There are over 6000 islands that belong to Greece but only a small proportion of them are visited by tourists. In fact only 227 of them are inhabited at all! Below are the 7 most popular Greek islands.

1. Corfu is one of the most popular Greek islands with millions of Europeans and Americans travelling there every year. It is just to the west of Greece and was one of the first tourist destinations within the Greek islands. Corfu has some of the most beautiful beaches on the Greek islands as well as an extremely lively nightlife. A great vacation destination for people of all ages. The north and North West Corfu have the best beaches with long stretches of sand.

2. Crete is the biggest of the Greek island by land area and is another popular tourist destination. It is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and is also a popular cruise ship port. Heraklion is the largest city and capital of Crete. Crete receives more than 2 million visitors a year with the vast majority arriving via the capital. Crete has magnificent mountains and a remarkably rich history. Like most of the Greek islands, Crete has a great night life as well as long relaxing beaches but it also has the added bonus of the mountains.

3. Zante, or Zakynthos as the Greeks call it, is the most southerly of the Ionian chain of holiday islands that follow the coastline of western Greece. Zante is a typical Greek island in that it has great beaches and a superb relaxed atmosphere. The island has fertile plains, rough hills, wild cliffs and sweeping sands. If you dig a little deeper and stray away from the Holiday resorts you will find sleepy fishing villages and stunning rugged countryside. Well worth a visit.

The island is only 45Km long and has some magnificent beaches. The island as a whole is extremely flat and consists mainly of flat plains. The flatness of Kos makes cycling an ideal form of transport. The whole island is accessible by bike.

5. Rhodes It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population. Over half of the population live in the capital, homonymous. The island of Skopelos can be seen from Skiathos with the more distant islands of Euboea and Scyros also visible in clearer conditions. Skiathos is a quieter island and not as popular with the tourist and some of the Greek culture still exists beyond your typical package holiday.

7. Santorini is a less well known Greek island but is a stunning destination that is popular with cruise ship operators. The island was born from an active volcano and fumes still plume out of the offshore volcano. The sunsets at Santorini are stunning and are known throughout the world.
